Gala Cricket Club has made an appeal for donations for their first ever food bank collection week.
The club is looking for non-perishable food items from supporters, members and the local community, which can be dropped off at their Meigle Park pavilion from Saturday 23 to Saturday 30 July.
All items will then be donated to the Galashiels Foodbank, who provide three-day emergency food parcels to people in need.
All donations are welcome but Galashiels Foodbank have particularly requested tinned items such as cold meats, desserts, tuna and fruit; alongside cooking sauces, jam, jars of coffee and biscuits.
A Gala CC spokesperson said: “Members of the club felt it was particularly important we gave something back to the community at this time, with the cost-of-living crisis impacting many people, including in Galashiels.
“Gala Fairydean Rovers Community Trust and Gala Rugby Club have previously held successful food bank collections and we wanted to follow suit and highlight again the generosity of the town’s sporting community.
“Galashiels Foodbank does great work to help local people in need and we would ask supporters, members and the local community to support their efforts and drop off whatever they can afford to at our clubrooms from 23 to 30 July.”
Gala Cricket Club is located at the top of Manse Street, directly after Victoria Park. More information is available at www.galacricketclub.co.uk or on its social media channels.
