Now that the dust has settled on the 2026 season, the time has come for us to reflect, regroup and look forward to rebuilding Gala Cricket Club.

It is no secret that we have struggled to field two teams consistently each week, with considerable time and effort spent trying to establish availability.

This is not a sustainable situation, and if we are to move forward, we need to attract additional players – whether they are new to the club, former members who might be tempted to return, or current players who can encourage others to get involved.

Alongside this, we have a very small group of volunteers running the club.

We cannot expect the same individuals to carry that burden indefinitely.

Gala Cricket Club needs your help.

Whether you could assist with playing, sponsorship, fundraising, identifying funding opportunities, bar duties, ground maintenance, administration or simply lending a hand when needed, every contribution would make a difference.

You don’t need to commit countless hours or take on a major responsibility – a little help can go a long way.

We have a fantastic club, a proud history and one of the finest grounds in the country. In 2028, Gala Cricket Club will celebrate its 175th anniversary – a remarkable milestone that we should all be proud of.

Plans are already underway to mark this special occasion, but we must also ensure that the club has a strong and sustainable future for generations to come.

With renewed commitment, a few more helping hands and a willingness to work together, we can rebuild both on and off the field.

There is no point in having one of the best grounds in the country if we cannot make full use of it every week.

Gala Cricket Club belongs to its players, its members and its wider community. Now is the time for us all to play our part in protecting what we have and helping the club move forward.
